Funeral homes and morgues in health care facilities have a special and heightened obligation to the surviving family to treat the remains of the deceased with dignity and all due respect. It is unfortunate and seemingly distasteful to sue a funeral home but the severe emotional damage that can be done will prevent future mistakes by the same or other funeral homes in acting in a cavalier and uncaring manner and perhaps put them on notice that the treatment of the remains of a loved one is important.
